Overview
Nursery growers now have an attractive option for the control of many diseases common to the ornamental nursery industry which was not available until our introduction of SGA-3 to the market.
SGA-3 is a semi noncorrosive acid that gives the nursery grower exceptional ability to implement a desired level of protection at the same time being able to protect against unwanted bacteria and fungi. It’s also economical because one product will replace several currently used during plant growth stages. For example, SGA-3 can be diluted to any target pH; the more dilution, the higher the pH. It will also replace toxic alternatives for the “hardening off” of plants before winter by diluting SGA-3 to the appropriate, lower pH level.
Nurseries that use new technologies for tissue culture and cloning will find SGA-3 application to juvenile plants beneficial in eliminating disease in first root elongation before natural beneficial organisms have a chance to begin protection. When treated in the nursery with SGA-3, plants in the field are less prone to disease.
Inside the tissue culture laboratory, SGA-3 is used for sterilization of the laboratory itself as a clean-in-place wash. It’s also used to sterilize tools used in the tissue culture transplanting process itself.
SGA-3 is applied in the nursery simply by injection into all irrigation systems including overhead and drip systems.
Damping off
Plants may be infected as soon as moisture penetrates the surface of the plant causing immediate rot under the soil surface (pre-emergence damping-off). Plants affected wither and die resulting in a poor, uneven stand of cuttings. Likewise, healthy looking plants may suddenly fall over from post-emergence damping-off. Fungi infection results in lesions at or below the soil line causing the plants either suddenly to discolor or wilt or simply collapse and die.
SGA-3 helps protect against the following fungi growth: Rhizoctonia root rot (Rhizoctonia solani), Pythium Root Rot (Pythium spp.), Phytophthora root rot (Phytophthora spp.), Black root rot (Thielaviopsis basicola) and Botrytis (gray mold).
Most fungal microorganisms have membranes of a cellulose-type material containing considerable water. SGA-3 works because it’s dehydrating molecule removes water from the outer protective coating as well as dehydrates the cell’s protein to cause cell destruction.
Sudden Oak Death (SOD)
SGA-3 also kills Phytophora Ramorum, the disease attacking and killing otherwise healthy oaks and other forest trees. To date, there are no safe compounds to control the disease in western U.S. coastal and inland forests. SGA-3 not only can be used at every stage of nursery propagation, including cleaning plant materials prior to cloning and seed treatment during growth, but also in the field as well. Because SNCA Products are all derived from food grade materials, SGA-3 can be applied aerially to mature timber stands with no environmental impact on the ground. SGA-3 offers a practical solution in the fight against SOD.
Chemical residue
SGA-3 removes chemical residue from watering including calcium, magnesium, and ferrous and bicarbonate residues.
Biological residue
Biological growth is minimal using SGA 3.
